Honoring a Historic Milestone in Hockey Legacy
As the owner of Logan Sports Group, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside the Washington Capitals for much of Alex Ovechkin’s career. Over the years, that relationship has grown into something more than just projects and deadlines—it’s been about trust, shared respect for the game, and understanding the importance of honoring moments that will live forever in hockey history.
A Milestone That Carries Special Meaning
The 900 career goals trophy represents the latest chapter in that journey, and for us, it carries special meaning. This is the third major milestone trophy we’ve created for Alex as his numbers continued to climb—following the 800 goals and 700 assists trophies that marked earlier historic achievements. Together, these pieces tell the story of a career that simply hasn’t been done before.
Each of these trophies is hand fabricated by our team at Logan Sports Group in East Gwillimbury, Ontario. For the 900-goal trophy, we knew it had to feel substantial in every sense of the word. The final piece weighs close to 65 pounds, constructed from solid stainless steel and bronze, because a milestone like this deserves permanence—not something symbolic, but something real.
The design details matter just as much as the materials. The Screaming Eagle base was chosen intentionally, referencing the logo Alex wore on his chest during his rookie season. That element connects where his NHL journey began to where it stands today. The eight-inch-high numbers, cast from solid bronze, were created using the same font found on the Capitals’ game jerseys, ensuring the trophy feels authentically tied to the ice and the team that defined his career.
Beyond Trophies: Preserving a Legacy
Beyond the milestone trophies, we’ve also had the honor of producing Silver and Gold sticks for other historic moments throughout Alex’s career. These pieces, along with the trophies, are expected to be displayed together one day when Alex opens his own museum in Moscow, Russia following his retirement. Knowing that our work will help tell his story for generations to come is something I don’t take lightly.
